3,549 majalis, 90 processions, organized on 2 Muharram

LAHORE: On the second day of Muharram, 90 processions and 3,549 majalis were held in the province on Tuesday. More than 26,000 policemen performed security duties for Muharram processions and majalis.

In Lahore, 2,500 policemen provided security to participants in eight processions and 386 majalis. According to IGP Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, security across the province is on high alert during Muharram with the implementation of Section 144. Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar (IGP) stated that processions and gatherings will not be allowed at places other than the scheduled routes and places.

He said that the officials of various security departments and divisions have been given the Muharram duty. He said that strict implementation of the Loudspeaker Act is being ensured and arbitrary action is being taken against those involved in promoting hateful content on social media.
