Everbridge Announces Results of 2024 Best in Resilience Study

Everbridge, Inc. today announced the results of the company’s 2024 Best in Resilience Study. The study reveals the critical capabilities of top-performing organizations that enable them to remain resilient as they navigate unforeseen challenges and emerge stronger from adversity.

“By understanding risks to our employees and operations, we can plan accordingly and respond more efficiently,” explains Chris Green, Incident Response Manager at American Family Mutual Insurance, an Everbridge Best in Resilience certified company. “When incidents occur, we can quickly assess risks and communicate with employees to ensure their safety and coordinate with our Incident Management Team.”

The Everbridge 2024 Best in Resilience Study analyzed thousands of data points from the previous year, including how organizations detect and assess real-time risks to their employees, assets, and locations, how well they communicate with their people in the face of such threats, and how well organizations assess their competencies and identify their strengths and opportunities for improvement.

Best in Resilience Study – Benchmarks for Organizational Resilience in 2024

Highlights

  • A review of 500,000 global risk events in 2023 shows that climate-related events account for 52% of all risk events, with the summer months having the highest number of risk events.
  • Top performing organizations will have assessed approximately 5,500 “severe” or “extreme” risk events in 2023. 15% of events resulted in employee alert notifications.
  • Hurricanes, geopolitical conflicts and civil unrest were the most likely triggers for employee warnings, with the highest number of warnings for flood and tornado risks. The average organization sent 44 employee warnings for flood events in 2023.
  • Top performing organizations sent employee notifications requesting a response to confirm they had received the alert or to ensure their safety. Organizations across industries received 80% response rates when sending to more than 1,000 employees, with many frequently receiving more than 90% response rates.
  • Best performing organizations send alerts to their employees within 10 minutes of receiving a risk event alert.

“The findings from the 2024 Best in Resilience Study underscore the critical importance of resilience in today’s rapidly changing landscape,” said Tracy Reinhold, Chief Security Officer at Everbridge. “The study highlights the critical role that proactive risk detection, effective communication, and continuous improvement play in protecting businesses and ensuring their continued success. By leveraging insights from top-performing organizations, businesses can strengthen their preparedness and response capabilities, ultimately improving their ability to navigate and thrive in the face of risk.”

Organizations monitor a wide range of risk events to protect their employees and ensure business continuity. They need an efficient process to inform their workforce and hold them accountable for their safety.

Everbridge assessed the communications efforts of Best in Resilience-certified organizations, including several Fortune 500 companies across multiple industries. The study found that these organizations assessed nearly 5,500 severe or extreme risk events that occurred near their people and operations, and that 15% of these risk event alerts were communicated to their employees by sending a multi-modal notification, often sent via email, text message, mobile app, desktop alert, and phone call.
