Khawaja Asif says phone tapping is vital for national security

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said the issue of phone tapping is in the legal stage.

He said it has become necessary in view of national security and its importance has increased in the war the state has resumed against terrorism.

“In the current situation, I will fully support phone tapping,” the minister said.

Responding to PTI’s protest over the issue of phone tapping, he even quoted a statement by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who had said during his tenure that “even his phone calls are being tapped, and for the right reasons.”

Asif was reacting after the country’s top spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was ordered by the federal government to intercept and trace phone calls and messages over alleged threats to national security.
