Masked suspect sought after two attempted abductions at Florida golf community

Residents of a golf club community in Vero Beach, Florida, are urged to remain vigilant after two attempted abductions in less than a week.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incidents, which took place after dark in the neighborhood of Pointe West, just a few blocks apart. The first occurred around 10:15 pm on Tuesday, July 2, and the second just after midnight on Sunday, July 7.

Authorities released a home surveillance video in an attempt to identify a suspect who was in the area during an attempted abduction.

They describe the suspect as a masked male with a muscular build and wearing a hoodie. He reportedly approached the women and attempted to assault them but fled after they pushed him away and yelled for help.

Sheriff Eric Flowers told news media that while the suspect’s intentions are unclear, they are relieved both victims escaped. “This is very unusual for beautiful Indian River County,” he added.

The Sheriff’s Office advises residents to take safety precautions, such as locking doors, walking with a friend at night and reporting any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact Detective Daugherty at 772-978-6240 or, to remain anonymous, contact Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477).
