McDonald’s apologizes as drive-thru in County Durham closes two weeks after renovation

A McDonald’s store in County Durham has closed its drive-thru after renovations were not fully completed following its opening.

McDonald’s Consett, located on Pond Court, is covered in scaffolding as the fast food giant completes work on its roof.

The scaffolding extends to the left of the store, where the drive-thru is located, and has resulted in the drive-thru being closed less than two weeks after the store reopened following a three-month renovation.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Since reopening, the final part of completion was the installation of the external roof panels. These have now arrived and are currently being installed.

“The work is nearly complete and we apologize to our customers for the short closure of the drive-thru.”

The refurbishment was originally scheduled for October 2023, but was delayed and was due to start in March 2024, leaving Consett residents without the American fast food chain for three months.
