Regular Police Announce Retirement of K-9 Thor

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — The Normal Police Department announced that its K-9 officer Thor will retire Tuesday.

According to the Facebook announcement, Thor has been serving the residents of McLean County for the past seven years. Working alongside his handler, Officer Shane Bachman, he has been responsible for many arrests and apprehensions in the area.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to K-9 Thor and Officer Bachman for their steadfast service and dedication,” the announcement said.

The award-winning pair has won eight awards at the American Working Dogs Vohne Liche Kennels Olympics. Each year between 2018 and 2023, the pair competed against 130 other teams, winning awards for, among other things, detecting narcotics in warehouses and vehicle exteriors.

Thor worked with most of the law enforcement agencies in McLean County and was responsible for the largest methamphetamine seizure in the history of the Normal Police Department.

Agent Bachman has been working with Thor since 2017. Before working with Bachman, he worked with K-9 Gunner from 2008 to 2017.
