Hyderabad to plant 30 lakh seedlings – State government’s Vana Mahotsavam initiative | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The state government is gearing up to launch the Vana Mahotsavam initiative in all zones within the GHMC from Monday. The primary objective is to improve the city’s environment and provide a more pleasant living environment to its residents. As part of this initiative, the government has set an ambitious target of planting 30 lakh saplings across the city. Based on past experience, the authorities have decided to deliver free saplings directly to the doorsteps of residents, with an aim to maximise participation. Hyderabad’s previous tree planting efforts have received international recognition, leading to the city being honoured with the Tree City Award. According to the Forest Survey of India, Hyderabad’s green cover has expanded significantly, with a 147% increase in forested areas over the past decade — from 33.15 km2 in 2011 to 81.81 km2 in 2021. Buoyed by these achievements, the government is actively planning extensive tree plantation activities in parks, roadsides and along roads in the GHMC area. The official inauguration of the Vana Mahotsavam programme is scheduled for July 8, marking the beginning of the efforts in GHMC.
