Insider says Joe Biden could decide ‘within days’ whether to stay in the race for the 2024 election

President Joe Biden could decide to withdraw from the race to remain as US president within days, an insider said.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green has been friends with the Biden family for years. He recently attended a meeting with other Democratic governors and provided insight into the current president’s mindset after facing fierce backlash following a debate with opponent Donald Trump that was widely deemed a disaster.

Governor Green said Biden would nominate Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him if he were to resign. “I think the president is going to stay in this race unless he feels it’s unwinnable or he feels he needs to hear other voices in his inner circle that are going to stop him from running,” Green said. “If the president feels he can’t do it and he really can’t do it, he will resign.

“We’ll probably know in the coming days how the president feels about all of this,” he said. Questions about Biden’s mental health and ability to remain president have roiled his 2024 reelection campaign against his Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump.

While some of his fellow Democrats have encouraged Biden to leave the campaign, the president has pointed to the support of other elected officials in the party, particularly governors. Green says Biden’s age shouldn’t be a factor and that he should be respected for his wisdom, as older family members often are.

“That’s why I’m going to stand with the president until he tells me otherwise,” Green said. Green said the timeline of a few days for a decision anticipates the pressure that could be put on Biden after members of Congress return to Capitol Hill this week.
